Sean Meagher of the Oregonian is throwing Kris Humphries’ name in the hat for the Blazers in free agency — http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2011/07/nba_free_agency_2011_should_th_1.html
Should the Blazers sign Kris Humphries?
Quick analysis: Absolutely not.
Basic rule of thumb: Never sign a guy who magically plays out of his mind in the last year of his contract. “Poof, double-double. Now where’s my dough?” We’ve seen it time and time again. These guys know when the big money is on the line, and have a sneaky way of elevating their game just in the nick of time. Humphries put up 12th man numbers for half a decade. A double-double average during a contract year should raise more than a few questions.
He also plays on a bad team. If I tried really hard, I might even be able to crack that lineup.
He’ll be back on the bench in Portland, which he won’t be happy about after his rise to the starting lineup in Jersey. If rebounds are about effort, then a not so happy/financially content Humphries equals not so many boards.
Lastly, he’s married to a Kardashian. Did nobody see the habitual glazed look covering Lamar Odom’s face during the playoffs last season? A Kardashian reality show can’t be good for anyone’s head.
My guess: Someone will overpay for him. He’ll snag 8 mill and 5 less rebounds a game, as he will likely come off the bench wherever he goes. Just don’t let it be with the Blazers.
