Not sure what sort of platform Ron Artest had in mind when he changed his name to Metta World Peace, but there’s a chance it won’t be LA in the coming season. The sports blog gather has reported Milwaukee as a possible destination for Mr. World Peace. In return — hypothetically — the Lakers would receive Beno Udrih.
Quick Analysis: I don’t normally break down big market stuff, but if I’m the Lakers, I don’t make this move. The Lakers don’t just need an upgrade at point guard, they need a SIGNIFICANT upgrade at point guard. With the decline of Kobe and the habitual pillow softness of Gasol, the Lakers are in need of another star. Beno Udrih offers an upgrade, but not much of one, and with the loss of a defender like World Peace, the team may actually take a step back with that kind of trade. But then again, when I try to think of what better they could get for a guy like World Peace, I’m not coming up with anything. He’s the kind of player nobody really wants to trade for unless they feel like they’re a few defensive stops away from a championship — disqualifying Milwaukee from really wanting to make this move, unless they see themselves as better than they really are.
What to do about World Peace. Always a paradox.
