It’s no secret: OJ Mayo is the odd man out in Memphis, and with the considerable talent he has, he’ll be on a high profile move very soon. But where to? Bernie Dawkins of the Bleacher Report has Mayo going to the Cavs, or at least would like to see it happen.
Quick Analysis: First of all, we are only speculating here. The only thing we know is that Mayo will definitely be on the move. It’s a perfect fit for Cleveland, but it’s a perfect fit for a lot of other teams as well. I’ll throw my pitiful Jazz in the hat, it’s a perfect fit for them as they are poised to make a run at the playoffs again. It’s a perfect fit for Chicago, as they are a shooting guard–and quite frankly any second scoring option–away from a championship. It’s a perfect fit for anyone with an average or even good shooting guard, because Mayo is a GREAT shooting guard. The guy can flat out score the ball.
Something else to look at: what could Cleveland possibly give Memphis in return? Keep in mind, the Grizz are contenders, and one good piece could put them right in the conversation for best in the west. In other words, I doubt they’ll be looking for draft picks. For once in a long while, Memphis is NOT rebuilding. They are ready to win NOW, and I’d expect them to apply the moving of Mayo directly to that cause.
Anything can happen. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Utah, but sorry Cleveland fans, your chances are probably just as bad.
