Either I’m just a disgruntled fantasy owner, or I’m not the only one who thinks that Derrick Williams is getting jobbed by the Timberwolves. Here’s a #2 pick and arguably the best player in the draft–had the Cavs needed a forward as much as they needed a guard, he’d be in Cleveland right now–and we find him in freakin’ Minnesota riding pine.
Thus far, Williams posts the third lowest minute total on the team, and isn’t but a few minutes from becoming the last guy off the bench. Meanwhile, players like Darko Milicic and Anthony Tolliver are seeing five and six minutes more court time. Anthony Tolliver! As well as things have been going in Minnesota, you’ve gotta be concerned about this. Williams doesn’t seem like the type of guy who will take his 15 minutes and be happy about it, and it can’t help that he gets a front row seat to watch Michael Beasley build formidable brick buildings for 33 minutes a game. I said earlier that I’d be surprised if Beasley was still in Minnesota at the end of the year. Now the only thing that would surprise me is if Williams doesn’t go Demarcus Cousins on his coach within the next month.
Dude’s a talent. He’s shooting 50% for 15 minutes while Beasley shoots 40% for 30. And he’s got a connection with Rubio already. He threw down a lob from Ricky just last night, and it looked like they’d been doing it for years. I just don’t get it.
