Let’s face it, at this point in the season you’re not going to find a free agent dynamo… PSYCHE, Jeremy Lin! But aside from Jeremy Lin, it’s slim pickin’s out there, but LowerTheRim may have located a few risky but rewarding pickups to plug the
gaping small holes hole in your lineup this week. Both could fall flat, but both might bring you that mid-level production that is impossible to find this late in the season.
CJ Watson: The upside to this guy is that as long as Rose is out, he can definitely hit mid-level production if given the minutes, and he might even throw in a token double-double. It’s all about Rose’s back, and while many analysts would think Rose will return within the week, we now know Rose plans to see a specialist, which to me says he’s probably not going to reenter the picture this week, and he may even call it quits until after the Allstar Break. Whatever treatment the specialist suggests, I would think he’ll give it at least a week to take. With that said, Rose is a gamer, and he might just waltz out there the very first game of the week. The other downside is that CJ Watson has been–as Chris Mullin so Brooklyn-ly put it the other day–giving Jerry West concussions (he’s been bricking his shots so bad that they’re hitting “The Logo” on the corner of the backboard). Watson shot horribly tonight, and if he keeps missing three out of four shots his minutes will likely start slipping to John Lucas III. But again, it’s late in the season, you gotta take some risks.
Daniel Gibson: Same deal here, except in Gibson’s case his value is dependent on Kyrie Irving’s melon. The risk is about the same, and the reward is about the same. If I had to pick I’d probably take Watson, simply because he’s got the ball in his hands every play, whereas Gibson has a career tendency to disappear into the corner, whether he’s getting big minutes or not.
If you’re looking for a forward you can pretty much forget about it. Brandon Bass just went down, so JaJuan Johnson if you’re really that desperate. It’s like fishing with a Fig Newton at this point, but you never know… Lin! Lin! Lin!
